Technip to take charge of Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm

Paris-based Technip will perform the engineering and installation work at Aberdeen’s recently approved offshore wind farm, and may expand its Newcastle manufacturing facility to accommodate renewables, Recharge can reveal.

In early August, the UK’s Crown Estate approved the £150m ($231.8m) project, which is 75% owned by Swedish utility Vattenfall and 25% by the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG). It will be sited in Aberdeen Bay.

The for-profit project — known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre — is unusual in that it will utilise 11 massive next-generation turbines from several different manufacturers, totalling 50-100MW.
