Ex-Im Bank loan for Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) is providing project financing for the Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras.

The $159m direct loan to Energía Eólica de Honduras, an indirect subsidiary of Mesoamerica Energy, will finance its purchase of 51 Gamesa G87 2-MW wind turbines for the 102MW project.

The wind farm will reportedly be the largest in Central America, and the first utility-scale wind project in Honduras.

It will be located 20km south of Tegucigalpa in the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Buenaventura.

Once operational, the wind farm will be the fourth largest power generator in Honduras, producing about 6% of the country's power.
