PSO continues to boost wind energy in generation portfolio

Public Service Company of Oklahoma has reached a long-term purchase agreement for 99MW of power with NextEra Energy Resources from its wind farm under construction in Minco, spokesman Stan Whiteford tells Recharge.

Financial details were not released. The deal will bring the total amount of wind energy in PSO’s generation portfolio to 689MW, the most of any utility in Oklahoma.

It will also bring PSO close to the state goal for utilities to voluntarily obtain 15% of their generation from renewable sources by 2015. PSO has 4,405MW of generating capacity overall.

If regulators approve the idea, PSO intends to set aside a portion of the electricity generated at Minco for customers who want to voluntarily purchase more of their power from renewable resources.
