GE opens new renewables HQ; marks wind turbine milestone

Global energy giant General Electric dedicated a new facility in Schenectady, New York, to house its renewable energy business, including one of its two Remote Operations Centers.

GE positions the new $45m building as a signal of its commitment to cleaner, more efficient energy. Victor abate, vice president of renewable energy for GE Power & Water, says that commitment has already yielded tremendous growth.

“When we entered the wind energy industry in 2002, it was a $200 million business for us,” Abate says in a statement. ”Today it has grown significantly, with revenues topping $6 billion.”

Also, GE says it has now installed 13,500 wind turbines globally.
