Detroit Edison to ramp up wind power in energy generation mix

Detroit Edison plans to add 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy by 2015 to meet Michigan requirements, with most of it coming from wind farms in the state.

Michigan’s renewable portfolio standard requires publicly-owned utilities such as Detroit Edison to obtain 10% of their power generation from renewable sources by 2015.

Spokesman Scott Simons tells Recharge that the utility intends to eventually own 600MW of wind power that will be sited on some of 75,000 acres of land it has leased in Huron County in Michigan’s eastern peninsula region bordering Lake Huron.
