TransAlta advances C$100m New Brunswick wind farm expansion

TransAlta will invest C$100m for a 54 megawatt expansion of its Kent Hills wind farm southwest of Moncton after being awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement by New Brunswick Power. Terms of the deal were not released.

Expansion of the 96MW facility will involve addition of 18 Vestas V90 3MW turbines, which are expected to began commerical operation by the end of this year. The project is subject to regulatory and environmental approvals.

Once complete, the expanded Kent Hills is expected to provide 160,000 megawatt hours per year, enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 9,000 homes.

“We are pleased to have been awarded another long-term PPA with New Brunswick Power, and continue our strong relationship with them,” says Steve Snyder, chief executive of TransAlta.
