Akuo taps GE for 96MW in Texas

The project will use 1.7MW GE turbines

French developer Akuo Energy will use 96MW of GE wind turbines at its first US project.

Akuo ordered  56 GE 1.7-103 machines for deployment at the Rocksprings 1 wind farm in Val Verde county, Texas.

Chicago-based Akuo Energy USA also signed up GE on a long-term O&M deal for the Texas project, which will have an total capacity of 180MW once phase 2 is added.

Construction at the site began in December 2013, with commercial operations due to begin next year.

Akuo has a total US portfolio of 1GW, mainly wind but also including some solar projects.

GE has previously supplied Akuo projects in Turkey and Montenegro to the tune of 172MW, said the developer.

Akuo claims to be France’s leading independent power producer, with 574MW in operation.
