A number of new blades were shipped to the plant after the
breakage on one of the 58 GE 1.6-100
turbines being commissioned at the wind farm in Wyoming County.
In December, GE said it determined that the
root cause of the Orangeville blade break and another at a Michigan wind farm owned by
utility DTE Energy was a “spar cap manufacturing anomaly”.
The turbine manufacturer pledged to put extra controls in place in a bid to prevent future problems.
Orangeville is sited near Invenergy’s
112.5MW Sheldon Wind Farm, which began operations in 2009.
by Orangeville will be sold into the wholesale markets managed by the New York
Independent System Operator (NYISO).
