Samsung. Pattern Energy Group and Capital Power broke ground following successful completion of an $850m financing, which was secured with 15 financial institutions in the form of a construction loan that will convert to long-term operational debt.
The 140-turbine project, which is due to fully enter service in the second half of 2015, will utilize towers fabricated by CS Wind in Windsor, Ontario, and blades manufactured by Siemens in Tillsonburg, Ontario.
The project site is located on property leased from 90 landowners and is adjacent to Capital Power’s 22-turbine Kingsbridge 1 Wind Operation, which has been in operation since 2006.
K2 will generate clean power for approximately 100,000 Ontario homes.
“K2 is our third wind project in Ontario to start construction, bringing a total of 690 MW of new wind energy to the province,” says Mike Garland, chief executive of Pattern Energy.
