Commercial operations have started at the 30MW Atlântica 1 wind farm in Brazil’s southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

It is the second of four plants that make up the 120MW Atlântica wind complex owned by Brazilian power company CPFL Renováveis, which got authorisation for the start-up from state regulator Aneel.

The 30MW Atlântica 5 started commercial operation of eight of its 10 turbines earlier this year.

Atlântica 2 started testing in February 2014, while Atlântica 4 has still to start tests.

Spain's Acciona signed a contract to supply 40 3MW AW116/3000 turbines for the Atlântica complex.
