Nebraska utility, Sempra seal PPA

Nebraska Public Power District’s board has approved a 25-year agreement with a Sempra US Gas & Power affiliate to purchase all 75MW of wind energy to be generated from the Broken Bow II project.

NPPD will sell 60% of the energy to the Omaha Public Power District, a utility serving the state’s largest city. Customers from both utilities will benefit. Broken Bow II will bring NPPD within 23MW of its 10% renewable portfolio standard goal.

General Electric will begin delivery of 43 1.7MW wind turbines in March to the project site in central Nebraska with shipments lasting through August. Broken Bow II is slated for commercial operation in late 2014.

“Nebraska’s largest public power utilities have been dedicated to adding more wind to their energy portfolios,” says NPPD chief executive Pat Pope.

Broken Bow II is the eighth wind facility NPPD has brought to the state, according to Pope.
