The stricken wind turbine in Fayette county

A 1.5MW GE turbine has toppled over at NextEra Energy Resource’s 15MW Mill Run wind farm in the US state of Pennsylvania, and an investigation is underway, according to local press reports.

The turbine – which pictures show lying on its side across a dirt road – was flagged up as having fallen yesterday by members of the local community. No injuries were reported.

Next Era dispatched a technician after its remote-monitoring system reported the trouble at the 12-year-old wind farm in Fayette county, some 100km southeast of Pittsburgh, a spokesman told local press.

The “cause of the failure is currently under investigation”, NextEra spokesman Steve Stengel is quoted as saying.

The Mill Run wind farm was developed and built by Horizon Wind – Log in to read complete article.
