Alstom has announced its first major wind-turbine order in the US in more than a year, with the French industrial giant unveiling plans to supply Tri Global Energy’s 80MW Fiber Winds project in Texas.

Even as Alstom stacked up big orders in Brazil, Mexico and Canada last year, orders in the US proved elusive.

Tri Global Energy, a Dallas-based wind developer with projects underway in Texas and New Mexico, has not yet reached financial close for the Fiber Winds project, sited near Lorenzo, in northwestern Texas.

But Tri Global has committed to buying 25 of Alstom’s Eco122 turbines – rated at 2.7MW each and designed for low-wind sites – and an additional four of its Eco110 turbines.
