EDF buys 194MW Texas project

EDF Renewable Energy says it has acquired the 194MW Spinning Spur 3 wind project in the Texas Panhandle from developer Cielo Wind Power.

Terms were not made public. The deal includes long-term power purchase agreements with two municipal utilities: Georgetown Utility Systems and Garland Power & Light.

EDF expects to have Spinning Spur 3 in commercial operation in fourth quarter 2015. Electricity from the project will be transported utilizing high-voltage transmission lines installed in 2013.

EDF last year gained full ownership of Cielo’s 161MW Spinning Spur 2 project.

Ryan Pfaff, executive vice president at EDF, says the independent power producer continues to find “attractive investment opportunities” in Texas, and expects to exceed 1GW of installed wind capacity there by 1 January 2016.
