Copel buys 184MW of Brazil wind

Brazilian state-owned utility Copel has announced the acquisition of 183.6MW of wind assets from the developer Casa dos Ventos Energias Renováveis.

The R$286m ($127m) deal includes the buy-out of seven wind farms located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte. The projects are slated to start operating by February 2015.

Two years ago, Copel bought a 49.9% stake in São Bento Energia, a company that owns four wind farms totalling 94MW which will become operational by September this year.

With those acquisitions, Copel now has a wind portfolio of 280MW, including a 2.5MW wind plant that has been operating since the early 2000s.
