NJ to act in June on Fishermen's wind project

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has set a 30 June deadline to act on an application from Fishermen’s Energy to build a 25MW to 30MW demonstration wind farm in state waters 2.8 miles (4.5km) off Atlantic City.

The regulatory body has had the project under consideration since May 2011. It agreed to extend its review period several times to give Fishermen’s the necessary time to make the strongest case possible for ratepayer support. 

Fishermen’s Energy is the first private developer to seek BPU qualification to apply for a subsidy programme that will incentivize 1.1GW of offshore wind energy by 2020. It will award offshore wind renewable energy certificates (ORECs) to operators of wind farms on a megawatt-hour production basis.
