North Carolina governor boosts offshore

North Carolina’s new governor Patrick McCrory is pledging his administration’s full support for federal initiatives that would allow commercial wind energy development in federal waters off the state’s coast.

In a letter to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), which has responsibility over this area, McCrory says that offshore wind will bring a “much-needed” infusion of energy, jobs and investment to the state.

“I believe in an ‘all-of-the-above’ energy plan that includes wind is vital to a prosperous energy future in North Carolina,” he says in the letter. Commercial offshore wind farms could “stimulate factory development in the state to provide the necessary equipment and bring jobs to that sector.”
