Iberdrola starts up three US wind farms

The Manzana and Hoosac wind farms both use 1.5MW GE turbines

Spanish utility giant Iberdrola has started operations at three new wind farms in the US with a combined capacity of 265MW.

The start-ups bring Iberdrola’s total capacity in the US to 5.7GW. The three are the 189MW Manzana wind farm in California, the 48MW Groton in New Hampshire and the 28.5MW Hoosac in Massachusetts.

The Manzana and Hoosac wind farms both use 1.5MW GE turbines, while Groton consists of Gamesa G87 2MW machines.

Iberdrola is the second-biggest wind farm operator in the US after Next Era. It began its expansion in the US in 2006 with the acquisition of several local developers and acquired major player PPM in 2007 through its takeover of Scottish Power that year.
