US ITC backs wind tower tariffs

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has approved steep import duties on wind towers from China and Vietnam, essentially blocking exports from those countries for the next five years.

The Department of Commerce ruled last year that wind towers from both countries were being dumped in the US at below-market prices and that Chinese towers were unfairly subsidised.

The ITC, an agency that advises on trade policy, concluded on Friday that the US industry is “materially injured or threatened with material injury” by those imports, a condition necessary to the Department of Commerce implementing its final anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs.

The tariffs, released last month, range from 44.99% to 70.63% for the anti-dumping duties on Chinese towers and 21.86% to 34.81% for anti-subsidy duties.
