Siemens wind farm for US nuclear body

Siemens has won a contract to build and operate the US federal government’s largest wind farm for America’s nuclear watchdog.

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) awarded Siemens the deal for its Pantex wind project, an 11.5MW plant near the agency’s facility in northern Texas.

The wind farm will use five 2.3MW wind turbines and will generate more than 60% of the annual power needs of NNSA’s Pantex Plant.

NNSA expects the wind farm to save it an average of $2.9m a year over the 20 years it will operate under the deal with Siemens, which will provide an annual energy production guarantee.

The contract was awarded to Siemens Government Technologies, the unit of the German industrial giant Log in to read complete article.
