BP, Sempra complete 470MW US plant

The wind farm uses 294 GE 1.6 MW wind turbines

BP Wind Energy and Sempra US Gas & Power have started full commercial operations at the $800m Flat Ridge 2 wind farm in the US state of Kansas.

The 470MW plant is located on a 66,000-acre site covering parts of Harper, Barber, Kingman and Sumner counties in southern Kansas.

Flat Ridge 2 – owned 50-50 by BP and Sempra – is the state's biggest wind project, say the two companies.

The owners say the plant was built in Kansas in part because of its business environment but largely because of its wind resources, which have been ranked the second-best in the US.
