Goldwind sells 109MW Illinois wind farm

China’s Goldwind has confirmed the sale to Algonquin Power & Utilities of the 109.5MW Shady Oaks wind farm in the US state of Illinois.

The plant, located about 50 miles west of Chicago, consists of 68 Goldwind 1.5MW turbines and three of the group’s 2.5MW units.

News of a possible deal first emerged in late November, when Algonquin revealed it was in talks over a possible purchase without naming Shady Oaks, which was Goldwind's largest US wind asset.

Goldwind claims the deal is an important step to showing its permanent magnet direct-drive (PMDD) wind turbines are seen as viable assets in the US.
