It was the first time wind power surpassed 4% of the country’s generation mix, the industry group says, citing data from the US Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration.

Wind now supplies electricity for the equivalent of 15.5 million homes.

“The electricity generated by American wind power has more than tripled since 2008 not only due to significant growth in new wind projects, but also technology innovation leading to more productive wind turbines,” says Elizabeth Salerno, vice president of industry data and analysis at AWEA.
