Consumers advances Cross Winds
Utility Consumers Energy is resuming construction on its 105MW Cross Winds Energy Park in Michigan as warmer weather returns, with full commercial operation expected in the fourth quarter.
The facility, 144km northwest of Detroit, will utilize 62 General Electric 1.7-100 wind turbines whose components are scheduled to arrive on site in mid-summer.
When fully in service, the wind farm will allow the utility to comply with the state’s 2008 Energy Law that requires it to obtain a minimum of 500MW of new capacity from renewable energy resources by the end of 2015.
This can be done either through generation resources owned by Consumers or with purchase agreements with independent power producers.
Consumers, based in Jackson, Michigan, is the state’s largest combined electric and natural gas utility.
