According to the Mines and Energy Ministry, the forecast for wind, biomass and small hydro is based on the 180 new projects that sold power in government-regulated auctions in 2013 and that were granted concessions this year.

They have a combined capacity of 4.9GW, of which wind accounted for 3.7GW, or 76%.

The projects will start operating between 2017 and 2018.

Brazil's wind capacity stands at 5GW.
