The US manufacturer says the 120-metre rotor, combined with a tower with a maximum 139-metre hub height and state-of-the-art control technology, will help operators reap the benefits of low-wind sites such as heavily-forested regions in Europe and Canada.

The first prototype of the 2.5-120 will be deployed in the Netherlands next month.

The company says the turbine is designed to link with energy storage.
