Acciona opens first turbine plant in Brazil

Spanish wind group Acciona has opened its first manufacturing plant in Brazil.

The Simões Filho hub-assembly plant in the wind power hotspot of Bahia has a capacity of 135 units annually, says Acciona.

The factory will turn out components for Acciona Windpower’s AW-3000 3MW model.

Acciona will supply 40 AW-3000s to developer CPFL Renováveis for its Atlántica wind farm in Rio Grande do Sul state.

Acciona is the latest foreign wind group to open a plant in Brazil, which has set stringent local content demands on manufacturers wanting to supply its fast-growing renewables sector.

The Spanish group is sourcing blades and towers from local Brazilian producers, and says its activities in the country will support some 700 jobs.
