EDPR nails 80MW US wind PPA

EDPR has nailed down a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unnamed off-taker for its 80MW Rising Tree project, set for commissioning next year.

The announcement comes less than a week after Vestas confirmed plans to supply 400MW of wind turbines to projects being developed by EDPR in the US, as part of a wider 1.5GW framework agreement from 2010.

The Rising Tree wind farm – initially slated for completion last year – will be built on a mixture of public and private land in California’s Kern County, near the desert city of Mojave.

The agreement is the latest in a string of major PPAs for EDPR projects in the US in recent months. The company claims it has PPAs for 400MW worth of projects coming on line by 2015, half of it under a recent deal struck with the Indiana Michigan Power Company.
