The target, which is now poised to become law, replaces the previous goal of 10% by 2020.

The 20% by 2025 target represents a compromise, reached following negotiations between legislators and the Chilean government.

The Chilean renewable energy institute Centro deEnergias Renovables, says currently between 5% and 6% of Chile’s energy comesfrom renewable sources, up from around 3.2% in 2011.
