The Portuguese group’s local subsidiary EDPR Canada and TimberWest have also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the T'Sou-ke First Nation, which could see them forge partnerships for projects.

EDPR Canada and forestry group TimberWest claimed an initial 300MW of wind on Vancouver Island would bring up to C$750m of potential investments into the region.

A statement from the two partners said: "The proposed projects present a unique opportunity to build power generation capacity on Vancouver Island, which generates only a third of its energy demand locally.”
