It has provided Takaoka Toko — a unit of Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) — with its Intensium Max 20 M Medium Power containerised lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery system, which offers nominal storage capacity of 520kWh and 1MW of peak power output.

The project will pair diesel generators with PV modules and wind installations to explore the technical issues associated with integrating renewables with electric power systems.

Saft did not reveal the terms of the deal, which is its first in Japan.
