The 448MW Neart na Gaoithe won a UK CfD in the first round of competitive renewable support auctions, the result of which was announced today.

Developer Mainstream Renewable Power (MRP) said it expects to make a final investment decision on the project in the first quarter of 2016, with the wind farm operational by 2020.

MRP – which plans to use Siemens 6MW turbines at the project in Scotland’s Firth of Forth – said: “What’s unique about this project is that it will be the first time a UK offshore wind farm of this scale will be built using project finance alone.

“Today’s
