Development potential of the country's offshore acreage has been "largely underestimated or ignored" so far due to transmission complexities, water depths and limited wind data, say the report's authors.
But advances in floating turbine technology and recent investment in onshore transmission infrastructure are expected to open the door to "more wind potential than previously anticipated".
The report found that expanding the scope of wind data collection off Turkey – from previously-studied heights of 80 metres to include 100-120-metre hub height readings – gives a more accurate view of the rich vein of wind energy coursing over the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black seas.
