"After GE completes the Alstom acquisition, which should be any day now, after quite a long and involved process, the company will have about 100,000 employees in Europe," Immelt said.
GE "will be a top tier industrial company in almost every country in Europe."
Immelt made his comments after the European Commission earlier this month approved a €12bn ($13.4bn) deal that will see GE acquire the power assets of Alstom, clearing the way for a merger that will have huge resonances for the renewables sector, as the US company gets Alstom's onshore wind operation and forms joint ventures offshore and in grids.
