Runevad said if current trends continue "we have the potential to double cumulative wind energy installations worldwide over the next five years".
Global capacity stood at 370GW at the end of 2014, according to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
Runevad told a Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference that the move towards larger turbines – both onshore and offshore – is just one part of the cost reduction picture.
