The biggest winner is understood to be Spanish green energy group Forestalia and another company controlled by the Samper family, which between them secured the right to build 402MW of wind capacity and 108MW of biomass.

Portuguese renewables giant EDPR was awarded 93MW of wind in the process, Recharge understands.

The capacity will have the right to enter Spain's heavily-reformed power sector, which has been subject to drastic support changes over the last few years.
