EGP, which owns 10.5GW of installed renewables capacity around the world, late last year quietly commissioned its first two projects with built-in battery storage in its home market of Italy.

The 18MW Potenza Pietragalla wind farm, connected to the high-voltage grid in southern Italy, has an integrated 2MW/2MWh Samsung lithium-ion battery system. Meanwhile, the 10MW Catania 1 PV plant, in Sicily, has a 1MW/2MWh storage system based on General Electric's Durathon sodium-metal halide technology.
