The cables, manufactured by Korea’s LS Cable & System, left Asia last week aboard a transport vessel, and are due to arrive at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, by the end of March, a Deepwater spokeswoman tells Recharge.
Offshore cable installation work will begin later this spring. Five of GE’s 6MW Haliade turbines will be linked to Block Island itself, which is expected to source 90% of its electricity from the project when it reaches commercial operation in late 2016.
