Scottish RE staff 28% women

A survey of employment in the Scottish renewable energy sector has found 28% of the industry’s workforce are women, compared to UK oil and gas which has 21% and nuclear with 18%.

Scottish Renewables commissioned consultants O'Herlihy to write the Employment in Renewable Energy in Scotland 2013 report after surveying more than 540 companies.

Its findings suggest 11,695 people are currently in full-time employment in the sector, an increase of 5% from the previous year’s study.

“These findings would seem to suggest that renewable energy is attracting more women than other more established energy sectors,” said Jenny Hogan, director of policy for Scottish Renewables.
