Enercon adds 68MW in Canada

German turbine manufacturer Enercon is on schedule for a year-end completion of installation of the 67.9MW second phase of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind complex in Quebec, Canada – which is slated to have a total capacity of 365MW when finished.

The company has already installed the 272MW first phase of the wind farm, using its E-70 and E-82 turbines with tower heights of between 64 and 98 metres for Canadian power-producer Boralex and gas company Gaz Métro, which will also be the operators of the second phase.

A 23.5MW third phase called Cote-de-beaupré is still in the environmental approval process and planned to be commissioned by the end of 2015, Boralex said. It will be the sole operator of that phase of the wind park.

Enercon said that the 272MW first phase was completed in only 30 months, even though the plant is situated in a 100 sq km area and 150km of roads had to be constructed for it.
