The contract takes effect 1 January 2016, according to the Georgia Public Service Commision.

The 151MW Blue Canyon II and 99MW Blue Canyon VI wind farms will provide power at below the utility’s avoided cost, or what it would cost to procure the energy from other sources including any that Georgia Power could develop.

“By adding yet another form of renewable energy – already constructed – to our energy mix, we keep Georgia prepared for possible rising natural gas prices in the future and we avoid any construction cost overruns associated with building our own resource,” says PSC Commissioner Tim Echols.
