Stronelairg will be sited on the Garrogie Estate in the Scottish Highlands, near SSE’s  Glendoe hydro plant.

An original plan for an 83-turbine plant had been refused earlier, on the grounds of impacts on the local landscape.

The project now approved will not be visible from major tourist sites such as Great Glen and Loch Ness, SSE stressed.

However, there was disappointment for developer RES when the Edinburgh government rejected its plan for the 63MW Newfield Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway on visual impact grounds.
