Spanish yard gets Wikinger work

Spanish renewables giant Iberdrola has named compatriot shipyard Navantia as preferred supplier of the offshore substation foundation for the Wikinger wind farm in German waters.

Wikinger – which Iberdrola said will only proceed to construction once sufficient grid capacity is available – will use a foundation from the shipyard in Cadiz in a deal worth about €70m ($95m).

Wikinger – originally designed at 400MW but since reduced to 350MW – is due to use Areva 5MW turbines at its site in the Baltic Sea.
