Suncor to add 140MW in Ontario

Suncor Energy, Canada’s largest company by revenue, anticipates having an additional 140MW of wind generation capacity in full commercial operation at the end of 2015, a spokeswoman tells Recharge.

Two Ontario projects are under development:

-Adelaide, 40MW, located near Strathroy west of London. Construction has begun with start-up in the fourth quarter. The project, which will utilize Siemens 2.3MW turbines with 113-meter rotors, has a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the provincial government.

-Cedar Point, 100MW, located 40km (24 miles) northeast of Sarnia. Subject to regulatory approval, the project will be online in fourth quarter 2015. It has a 20-year PPA with the provincial government.

Based in Calgary, Suncor owns and operates five wind farms in Canada totaling 225MW. Two are in Alberta, one in Saskatchewan and two in Ontario.

The company’s main business is development of oil sands, refining and marketing oil-based products.
