Vestas wins 150MW RES US order

Vestas has secured a 62-turbine order for its V11-2.0MW model from RES Americas for its 150MW Border Winds project in North Dakota.

The order comes with a three-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement.

The turbines will be supplied during third-quarter 2015, with Border Winds slated for commissioning by the end of that year.

Vestas’s Colorado factories are “expected to be involved” in the manufacturing of the nacelles, blades and towers that fall under the order.

After completion, the project’s ownership will be transferred from RES Americas to Minnesota-based Xcel Energy.

The deal is “another demonstration of the strong relationship between Vestas and RES Americas”, says Chris Brown, president of Vestas’s sales and service division in the US and Canada.

The order is a “call-off” on the 610MW Master Supply Agreement Vestas signed last September with RES Americas.  In total, 444MW of that 610MW has now been realised, in some cases by other parties who purchased RES Americas’ projects.
