Blue Transmission wins Duddon link

The Blue Transmission consortium has been named by UK regulator Ofgem as preferred bidder to own and operate the £296m ($506m) link to the 389MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm.

Blue Transmission – comprising Macquarie Capital Group, 3i BOFL Investments and Frontier Power – will run the transmission assets for 20 years after being selected in a competitive bidding process.

The contest was run under Ofgem’s offshore transmission owners (OFTO) regime.

Blue Transmission won the London Array OFTO last September, and also operates the Sheringham Shoal and Walney links.

West of Duddon Sands, sited off northwest England, has been jointly developed by UK, based ScottishPower Renewables and Denmark’s Dong Energy.

The last of its 108 Siemens 3.6MW turbines was installed last month and the wind farm is due to be fully operational by the end of the year.
