Acciona owns a 65% stake in the project, which required a total investment of $125m. The remainder is held by local group Ecoenergía.

Chiripa consists of 33 of Acciona WindPower’s AW 77/1500 1.5MW wind turbines mounted on 80-metre steel towers.

The plant is in the northwest of Costa Rica in the Guanacaste province, an area Acciona said boasts good wind conditions.

Its development follows a tender run by state utility ICE, which will buy power from the wind farm for 20 years.
