The German group said the certification includes a 25-year lifespan and marks another step forward in development of the SWT-6.0-154 direct-drive machine.

DNV GL specialists were given access to Siemens’ facilities in Denmark, and to Hunterston, UK, where a prototype of the 154-metre-rotor turbine is deployed.

The certification process looked at the turbine design, plus its manufacturing, installation and commissioning processes.
