Dong substation joy for WSP

Civil engineering group WSP has been awarded contracts to provide design work for new onshore substations on three Dong Energy wind farm projects off the UK.

The contracts relate to the consented 580MW Race Bank wind farm off East Anglia, and the proposed 258MW Burbo Bank Extension and 660MW Walney Extension off northwest England.

Detailed design work on the three substations is now under way and it is anticipated construction on first will begin in the next six months.

“With over 20 years’ experience in transmission and distribution in the UK we will bring in-depth knowledge and understanding of onshore substation design to these high-profile offshore wind projects,” says Jon Johnson senior technical director with WSP.

Dong Energy’s UK country manager Benj Sykes says the company is committed to continuing to support a UK supply chain in which it has already invested £5bn ($8.5bn).
