Hoosier Energy did not release financial terms of the deal. The cooperative will also earn renewable energy credits for the wind power.

The Rail Splitter project has been in operation since 2009 with installed capacity of about 100 MW.

"Hoosier Energy is focused on providing cost-effective renewable energy for our member systems," says chief executive Steve Smith.

Hoosier Energy provides wholesale electric power and services to 17 member electric distribution cooperatives in 48 central and southern Indiana counties and one cooperative in southeastern Illinois.
